Earthquake!

I felt my first earthquake, and it was a whopper! We were sitting in our apartment one evening, watching a movie with our friends Todd and Don, when the building started to sway a little bit. I got all excited as I realized that this was, in fact, my first earthquake.

The rumbling sort of became shaking. Then the shaking got stronger. In rather a quick moment, our excitement sort of waned and we all sort of looked at each other with the beginning of some funny fight-or-flight looks on our faces. Then it was really just going on a lot longer than we thought it should and I asked, childishly, if we were sort of supposed to be doing something by now. But nobody knew WHAT we were supposed to do. And just as all four of us got a little worried about the building falling down, it began to pass. The building continued to sway for a long time because we are pretty high up and the structure is built to absorb shock. It was a lot scarier than I had anticipated.

I'm getting used to them, though we were both startled from pretty deep sleep by another big one last week.

If you are ever in an earthquake, get under a heavy piece of furniture. I looked it up.
