spain So we went to Madrid. Madrid is in Spain. Rob lives there. I had never been to Madrid before. It's a lovely city. People eat and drink a lot there which, as you well know, are two of my favorite pastimes. I ate a LOT of jamon and a LOT of queso and some extravagant things like pate and vegetables that hadn't been bleached. I drank a LOT of wonderful Spanish Rioja. I even ate a roast suckling pig (sorry to all of you vegetarian types out there, but it was delicious). We went to the Museo del Prado where I fell madly in love with Goya all over again. His later paintings are true representations of what the inside of my brain looks like. They also have an amazing collection of Hieronymus Bosch (El Bosco!) paintings. I actually saw The Garden of Earthly Delights, which we all studied in art history 101. We went to the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and to the Parque del Buen Retiro, where one can see the first ever statue dedicated to the Devil, the El Angel Caido. And we walked. And walked and walked and walked. We also sat around reading books a lot, because it was cold and raining. Unfortunately, Rob had to work a lot (to see what Rob actaully does, go here). Chris and I took off for Portugal and then came back to Madrid in time for Thanksgiving, by which time Elizabeth had arrived. We hung around Madrid for that. Then we went adventuring. | ||
