and Happy New Year! For New Year's Eve, we accepted a very generous invitation from some friends' to join their table at the Madras Club. The Madras Club is the most posh and refined place in Chennai, for those of a certain social set (i.e. - not ours). We decided that it would be fun to spend the evening feeling special and allowing Breck and Abeni to see how the better half lives. Boy, were we wrong. The Madras Club has a lot of rules. I think that we broke four of them before we even found our table. Beer is free, but wine is not. No, one cannot pay cash. One must run a tab based on one's club membership number. But guests don't have a membership number. What to do? Nobody seemed to know. I guess that nobody thought about that potential scenario. Men must wear shoes. No sandals permitted. No alcohol from outside. Walk, don't run. The band was a very comical American pop cover band. It was extremely loud and crowded and the food was only passable. All in all, it was utterly ridiculous. But it was funny. The tower of the Madras Club: | ||
