my first international tv

When the folks from the consulate came to take our welcome kit away, I made a sad face about the TV that they were taking. The very nice guy felt sorry for me and asked me if I was actually using it. I said yes, I was using it. We only had American televisions with us that are not usable here. We use our big one only to watch movies and our little one is in the pantry, collecting dust. He felt sorry for me and let me keep it.

Some months later, just as Rob was arriving from Iraq, somebody came to take it away again. I had forgotten about it and I guess that I sort of assumed that I would get to keep it until we left post. I was very busy and had neither the time nor the money to go get a television. And I really wanted to have a television until Rob was gone so that we could watch news in the afternoon and bad movies when the notion struck us. So I made another sad face and they let me keep it again.

After Rob left, I finally did the right thing and relinquished my TV. Unfortunately, I then had to go out and buy a new one. I have learned a lot about the television requirements of other countries and I now know what PAL, NTSC, SECAM, and MESECAM mean.

Here it is! This baby will work anywhere!
