here we go again . . . Well, it's mango season again. This year, the rains were very active (Chennai was under water in September and October, if you will recall) and the first mangoes from our two Alfonso trees are HUGE. They're about twice as large as they were last season, though the first harvest was slightly smaller in number. We raked in about 800 total, which were divided between two households in our compound. So we've got 400 big fat mangoes. Or, rather, we did have 400. We put about 25 in the fridge to keep them green, 25 more in a box to ripen (which they have already done . . . Chris actually found one this morning that was so ripe it exploded . . . ) and the rest have been taken to work. I wandered around the Consulate hallways all week, handing out mangoes to all and sundry. I do believe that every employee in the building has taken home at least one mango, and many have taken far more (rascals!). Our mangoes are of the most highly prized variety and are considered quite a luxury, so everyone is having a happy mango season. | ||
