Malaysia, Truly Asia
(I realize that this is only funny to people in this part of the world. People in other climes, who don't get bombarded by the commercials on a daily basis, will just have to trust me on it.)

For two (2) weeks in April, we went to Malaysia. This trip was undertaken as an exchange with a junior officer in Kuala Lumpur, who basically switched places with Chris for a couple of weeks. This is a standard thing among junior officers, as it allows them to experience different places and different Foreign Service operations. Usually, in India, these things are done within the country. But, because of the fraud work that Chris had already done in collaboration with Embassy Kuala Lumpur, he arranged and exchange there for the purposes of additional cross-pollination.

And I tagged along. Because I need a vacation. From my oh-so-stressful life. Ha! I am SO spoiled.

First of all, we have to say thank you to Rachel and Martin, the exchangees. Rachel is a 2nd-tour officer in KL and she had the . . . ummm . . . OPPORTUNITY to come and see how operations work in Chennai. We're sorry, Rachel. But they did get to travel some, and they spent a week in Sri Lanka afterward, to calm down.

Rachel and Martin were extraordinarily hospitable and they made our stay at their beautiful apartment in downtown KL a joyous experience (particularly concerning their masseuse, Deng). Martin and I were able to keep things running smoothly at both households through constant e-mail contact. The modern world is truly amazing. We hope that they enjoyed our home as much as we enjoyed theirs. And thanks for the invitation to Vermont. As stated previously, we WILL take you up on it!

But anyway . . . our trip:

We left Chennai as early as we could so that we'd be able to take advantage of as much weekend time as possible. We got there and met Rachel and Martin, who took us out to an amazing steak dinner. That made a very nice first impression, I'll admit.

After dropping our stuff off at their house, we hopped on a bus to Melaka for the weekend, while they packed and set off for Chennai.
