then we went to Kuala Lumpur I guess that I forgot to make it clear that the reason we were going anywhere in the first place was for official State Department business. For reasons having to do with fraud, Chris had consultations at the embassies in Singapore and in Kuala Lumpur. We took that opportunity to take a vacation. We took the bus from Singapore to Malaysia, which took about five hours, including the very perfunctory border crossing. Right away, Chris likened KL to Indianapolis. I thought that it sort of looked like part of Eastern Europe right after the change. Either way, the sentiment was the same. It's a lovely place, in a sort of down-and-out way. A pretty good hybrid of Chennai, in the developing world (one is no longer allowed to say third world) and Singapore, in the hyper-developed world. Here are some pictures for you.
