kochi, kerala

Kochi is known for its diversity and eclecticism. It is one of the major cities on the Kerala coast and has a population of about 1.4 million. Here you can find the oldest church in India, small streets full of mosques and 500-year-old Portuguese houses, cantilevered Chinese fishing nets, an ancient and still living Jewish community, a 16th century synagogue, and a Portuguese palace that was given to a raja. It really is a very interesting place. We stayed in the older area known as Fort Cochin where there was, at one point, a fort.

The narrow little streets are quite charming and we walked around a lot.

thank you, beth, for showing me that picture.
