We’re moving back to DC. It is now official and we are expecting to arrive Stateside in December of this year. Are we happy about this, you ask? Yes. And no. I am sad to be leaving Japan so soon. Though, frankly, I am recently finding myself feeling sort of ready to move on. As always, I’m starting to feel the pull of New Adventures, and I think that I’m pretty ready for something new and different. Which is what makes going back to DC sort of sad. BUT! The other side of the fact that it will not be such an Adventure is that it will not be such an adventure. It has been a long time since we have lived close to our old friends and family and it will be nice to feel a little more plugged in, if you know what I mean. Our assignment there is also only for one year, which makes it slightly more palatable to me. Most of the news from here concerns the pending G8 Summit, which is taking place this year in Hokkaido. As you can imagine, this has the entire diplomatic community running around like so many headless chickens and Real Life here has ground to a screeching halt. Nobody is leaving. Nobody is coming. Everyone is just stuck here, waiting for the Summit to begin, and then end, so that life can go back to normal. The rest of the news from here concerns guests. Exit G8, enter friends! With the Summit looming, nobody here has been permitted to take time off at all, and we told everyone who wanted to visit that they would have to do so after mid-July. So, at exactly mid-July, we’re getting a long and extremely fun list of visitors, about which we are very excited. I have quit my job, as of 11 July, to be a full-time tour guide. Whee hoo! We’ll let you know how it goes. | ||||
